The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Skeikh Ibrahim el Zakzaky will depart Nigeria today for an Indian hospital, alongside his wife, Zeenah.
The sheikh and his wife are scheduled to leave the country, shortly, for the Medanta Hospital in New Delhi, India, to receive long overdue medical treatment for ailments resulting from injuries sustained during a raid on their home, in 2015, by security forces, which claimed the lives of some 300 members of his movement and three of his sons. His wife, who also sustained serious injuries, had since been in detention with her husband.
The Kaduna State government had refused to obey court orders granting the sheikh relief to travel abroad, for medical treatment, outlining certain stringent conditions that must be fulfilled before the sheikh and his wife are allowed to travel.
Following that development, a coalition of doctors from India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, wrote the Federal Government of Nigeria and the National Assembly, to facilitate the immediate transfer of the Sheikh to a well-equipped hospital, to avoid any untoward situation.
