The Nigerian Prisons Service now wears a new coat! It is now to be known, forthwith, as the Nigeria Correctional Service.
This follows the presidential assent to the Nigeria Correctional Services Bill, signed into law, Wednesday, August 13, 2019, by President Muhammadu Buhari, thus repealing the Service’s old name.
According to Senator Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, speaking with newsmen, the Nigeria Correctional Service is made up of two arms, namely, the Custodial and the Non-Custodial Services.
The Non-Custodial Service, according to Senator Enang, is intended to reform, by enabling community service for correction, as not every offence would result in prison sentence.
