Mohammed Sanusi II, Emir of Kano, dethroned earlier today, (Monday, March 9, 2020) has been forcefully removed from the palace and flown into exile in Nasarawa State, according to a News Express report, quoting Daily Trust which, itself, quotes unnamed security sources.
The report indicates that the emir was finally dislodged from the palace around 4.30 pm (local time) today and taken straight to the Aminu Kano International Airport, on his way into exile.
Earlier, a combined team of heavily armed security personnel from the State Security Service, the Police, Civil Defence Corps and the Army, were reported to have taken over the palace, shortly after the announcement of the emir’s removal.
Prince Aminu Ado Bayero Emerges New Emir
Meanwhile, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has emerged the new Emir of Kano.
The announcement was made by the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, only hours after Mohammed Sanusi II was dethroned. He said this was in line with the provision of the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2019, Section 11 (1).
